Download and Installation of QLRP4UT
Latest version: 2.05
Released: 8th August 2006

I have provided two methods by which this product can be installed. The first method is a semi-automatic installer where a helper application is used to complete some of the installation for you. This semi-automatic installer also acts as an upgrader to the latest version if you have a previously installed version of QLRP4UT. The other is a complete manual installation for those who don't like "new-fangled installers" or who have problems running the semi-automatic installer. Installation instructions below therefore depend on which method you wish to use. In each case there is a different file to download before starting, so make sure you download the correct file for your chosen installation method.

For current users of QLRP4UT who wish to upgrade their current version to the latest one, please see the How to Upgrade QLRP4UT instructions below.

QLRP4UT also now comes with a configuration tool installed as part of a new install or upgrade. For more details on this see the QLRP4UT Configuration Tool section below.

How to Install QLRP4UT

Requirements

- Must have a properly installed copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with Service Pack 1 (FS9.1)
- Must have a properly installed copy of Ultimate Terrain USA and/or Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska and/or Ultimate Terrain Europe (latest versions - see www.scenerysolutions.com or www.flight1.com for details)
- Recommend (but not required) a good 3rd-party 76m or 38m terrain mesh such as those from FS Genesis
- Must know how to copy and move files and folders using the Windows operating system

Installation Instructions

For both installation methods, I'm assuming that your FS9 main folder is under "Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9". From now on I'll call this main folder "FS9" and make references to other sub-folders in relation to it e.g "FS9/Addon Scenery" means the "Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery" folder.

QLRP4UT Semi-Automatic Installation Method

1. Download attached installer executable (QLRP4UT_Install.exe).

2. Shutdown FS2k4.

3. If you have Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska installed, use the "Setup and Configuration Tool" (version 1.2 or newer) for UT Canada to make sure that the following options are enabled:

- Remove FS2004 Bridge Objects
- Remove FS2004 Misplaced Buildings

If you do not want Ultimate Terrain's "Bridge Roads" appearing underneath the QLRP4UT repositioned bridges you can also switch off the following option:

- Add Bridge Roads

4. If you have Ultimate Terrain USA installed, use the "Setup and Configuration Tool" (version 1.21 or newer) for UT USA to make sure that the following options are enabled:

- Remove FS2004 Bridge Objects
- Remove Misplaced FS2004 Landmarks
- Remove Misplaced FS2004 Buildings

If you do not want Ultimate Terrain's "Bridge Roads" appearing underneath the QLRP4UT repositioned bridges you can also switch off the following option:

- Add Bridge Roads

5. If you have Ultimate Terrain Europe installed, use the "Setup and Configuration Tool" (version 1.11 or newer) for UT Europe to make sure that the following options are enabled:

- Remove FS2004 Bridge Objects
- Remove Misplaced FS2004 Buildings

If you do not want Ultimate Terrain's "Bridge Roads" or "Bridge Railroads" appearing underneath the QLRP4UT repositioned bridges you can also switch off the following options:

- Add Roads Classified As Bridges
- Add Railroads Classified As Bridges

6. Run the QLRP4UT installer (QLRP4UT_Install.exe) you downloaded in step 1.

7. Follow the onscreen prompts until you get to the install location dialog. Make sure that when you are asked to choose the destination folder for the installation that you point it at your FS9 main folder. The installer will try and prevent you from selecting somewhere other than the FS9 main folder, but double-check it before continuing.

8. Once you have selected the FS9 main folder as the destination, press the Install button and installation will begin. For those who want to know what is happening during this semi-automatic install I have listed the steps here. If you are not interested, just start reading again at the next step number.

- Renames this "bridges.XXX" scenery file to "bridges.bgl"
- Copies the entire "FS9/Scenery/Generic/Texture" folder and its contents to the "FS9/Addon Scenery/QLRP4UT" folder

9. Once the installer has finished all its work, if everything has been installed correctly you will end up with the following inside the "FS9/Addon Scenery/QLRP4UT" folder.

- A ReadMe
- A text file list of all the objects repositioned
- The QLRP4UT Configuration Tool executable "QLRP4UT_Config.exe"
- A folder named "Scenery" which contains 24 BGL files (23 QLRP4UT BGL files and "bridges.bgl")
- A folder named "Texture" which contains just over 500 .BMP files

If this is not the case, go carefully back through the steps above to find out where you went wrong and fix it.

10. Navigate to the "FS9/Addon Scenery/QLRP4UT" folder and start the QLRP4UT Configuration Tool by double-clicking on the "QLRP4UT_Config.exe" icon. This configuration tool enables you to enable/disable QLRP4UT scenery files depending on whether you have UT USA, Canada/Alaska and/or Europe installed, and for better compatibility with other add-on scenery you may be using. Follow the onscreen instructions. Once you have enabled/disabled the QLRP4UT scenery files as appropriate for your scenery installations, press the "Configure" button and then "Exit". (For more details on the choices which the QLRP4UT Configuration Tool provides, see the section on it below.)

11. Start FS2k4, select "Settings" and then choose "Scenery Library".

12. Click the "Add Area" button and then select the "QLRP4UT" folder from inside the "Addon Scenery" folder. Enable the "Use this scenery directly" radio button and then press "OK".

13. You should now see the "QLRP4UT" entry in the Scenery Library list. Make sure it is enabled. You can move it down in priority as long as:

a) It is above any UT related scenery entry.
b) It is above the "Generic Libraries" entry.
c) It is above any default MS supplied city specific entry or any default MS supplied region specific entry.

Note - If you have any 3rd-party enhanced scenery for North American or European cities/regions other than those listed in description of the QLRP4UT Configuration Tool below, there will most likely be conflicts with my repositioning project at this time. I aim to continue to split the files into smaller sets so they can easily be switched off if you have more specific enhanced scenery for a city. If you have conflicts, you may need to temporarily disable the other 3rd-party enhanced scenery.

14. Once all changes to the Scenery Library have been complete, press the OK button and exit FS2k4.

15. Restart FS2k4 and enjoy. Depending on which Ultimate Terrain product(s) you have installed, some good cities to check out the repositioning are Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, New York, Washington DC, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, London, Berlin, Paris and Rome.
